I've had the honor of calling you my brother for almost 40 years.
I've always bragged to everyone I know about you. Your strength, your work ethic, your perseverance, your heart, your smile. You are the epitome of the American dream! There wasn't anything you couldn't do nor wouldn't try. I was in awe of you.

I'm forever grateful for the memories we've shared (alpacas, rust, collecting rocks, and interpretive yoga in Central Park!) and for the love and happiness you brought into our lives and into my sister's. 

You always told me I was the one who could make Dorothy smile and laugh, so I'm going to do my damndest to make that happen! It's going to be a very tough road, because of course it always was you and not me, but I won't let you down.

Ciao o zì, 
mi rendo conto  solo ora che nell'arco della mia vita ti nominavo spesso, penso che ho parlato un po a tutti del fatto che avessi uno zio in America, che ha inseguito il suo sogno e che con le sue forze è riuscito a costruirsi un futuro meraviglioso insieme alla sua bravissima moglie. Sai zio ti ho usato tante volte come modello di vita, ho colto tante occasioni perché pensavo a te, perché tu sei stato il più coraggioso di tutti ed inconsapevolmente hai trasmesso un po a tutti noi la tua voglia di vivere e la voglia di inseguire i nostri sogni. Ti ringrazio perché anche se lontani sei sempre stato così vicino, vicino alle tue sorelle e vicino a tutti quelli che ti volevano bene, però zio io su una cosa devo rimproverarti, è dal 2007 che devi raccontarmi la fine di una barzelletta, la famosissima barzelletta del tubista, e ogni volta che ci provavi arrivavi sempre allo stesso punto e poi mi lasciavi in suspance dicendo "appena me la ricordo ti chiamo, mantieni in mano eh". E ora come faccio?? Chi mi racconterà il finale? 

Ti voglio bene zio. 
Veglia su tutta la nostra famiglia, e non litigare con nonno ora che siete insieme.

My family and I met Giovanni and his family  30  years ago when his wife, Dorothy, graciously agreed to become the babysitter for my infant son.  Giovanni and his entire family embraced my son like he was a member of the family. During his sons'  school-aged years, I also had the opportunity to see his boys while teaching at the school where they attended.  Our families bonded and never lost contact with the family, even today.  Giovanni told me 30 years ago of his dream to have  his  own business that would allow him to really be able to take care of his family the way he wanted.   He did just that!  I was so impressed by this hard-working and determined man who would stop at nothing to go over and beyond for his wife and three children.

My family and I send our condolences to the family and pray for God's comfort and strength over you.   Always cherish the fond  memories and good spirit of  Giovanni.   He made me laugh every time I saw him!  Our hearts are heavy over his loss!

Caro zio..non è stato semplice scriverti, perché ancora non accetto che tu non ci sia più. Il mio immenso affetto per te non svanirà mai, il tuo sorriso resterà sempre impresso nel mio cuore. Non servono tante parole, perché ora sei in grado di leggere nei nostri pensieri e nei nostri cuori. So che dall'alto ci sarai sempre accanto, ma ti aspetto nei miei sogni, per abbracciarti ancora, stretto stretto, come facevamo ogni volta che tornavi da noi. Caro zio Gianni,
é troppo difficile. Lasci un vuoto assordante, quasi surreale.
Non sai nemmeno quanto fossi amato da tutti, quanto ci rendessi orgogliosi e fieri e quanto fosse una gioia immensa parlare con te... ascoltarti, ridere insieme, fare battute sceme, prenderci in giro (principalmente eri TU che ci prendevi in giro!), così tanto che le ore duravano sempre troppo poco. Ci mancheranno tanto quelle chiamate... in fondo al cuore continueremo sempre un po' ad aspettarle.
Il nostro più grande rimpianto sarà non aver potuto abbracciarti un'ultima volta, il mio più grande dolore è che mamma non ha potuto farlo. Avremmo voluto che fosse andato tutto diversamente. Ed è tutto così ingiusto... 
Siamo però infinitamente GRATI di poter custodire tanti bei momenti trascorsi insieme, sei stato un grande uomo zio. Che vita straordinaria hai avuto! Tutti ti ricorderemo così, INVINCIBILE.

Sai, da piccola per noi nipotini eri "lo zio americano che arrivava con l'aereo" e quindi, ingenuamente, io pensavo che fossi in ogni aereo che passasse in cielo e tutti me lo lasciavano credere. Quindi a qualsiasi aereo urlavamo ogni volta "Ciao zio Gianni, torna presto!". 
Chissà se te l'ho mai raccontato... 
E ora guarderò ogni aereo nel cielo, proprio come facevo da piccolina, immaginerò che tu vegli su di noi (e non da solo) e dirò nel mio cuore: "C'è l'aereo... Ciao zio Gianni, buon viaggio". 

Sei scolpito nei nostri cuori. 
Ti voglio e ti vorrò per sempre bene zio...

La tua prematura scomparsa ci ha letteralmente sconvolti. 
Siamo increduli e ci hai completamente spiazzati.
Ci hai abituato come con determinazione e sacrificio 
si può ottenere ciò che ci prefiggiamo.
Tu ci sei riuscito alla grande e siamo orgogliosi di Te.
Ma un rimprovero te le devo fare ed è quello 
di non averci preparato a tutto questo 
ed hai lasciato un vuoto grandissimo in tutti noi.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Giovanni, but my husband spoke often of him and what a wonderful friend and person he was!  He will truly be missed! Many prayers and much love is being sent to his family and friends! May he RIP!

This news has really hit me hard. Giovanni was like a father to me. Yes we butted heads more then once but it never changes the way I felt about the man he was. We had many conversations with each other over the last 20 years he was my boss for 5 of them but a friend for all of them. To Dorothy he loved you more then anything in the world. And he never wanted to live with out you. ( He Meant that) You were the only person that could control him lol. It may have taken a few Italian sentences so nobody else knew what you said but it always worked lol.  As for his kids. You guys are the reason he was so successful. You three made him want more for his family and pushed him to become an owner and a successful businessman. Armando your father was very proud of you where you have came where you are now and where you’re going.He talked about how good of a father you are that he wishes he would’ve been a father to his kids as you are to yours. Roberto he was ecstatic on everything that you did he was impressed how you run the gym how you are as a man and I’m so blessed to have you as a son every time you share the video he shared with me and you could just see it in his face the way he felt about you. And Angelo we had many talks about you I know you don’t know me But I know you through your father. You were his baby he loved you more than anything  and only wanted you to succeed. He told me more than once are you are the only child he has exactly like him he wanted you to come into the office so bad to go to work with your mom it’s crazy. To all  of you he loves  more than anything in this world. His family was his reason. He will be greatly miss. I’m truly so sorry for your loss and my heart goes out to you. 

Giovanni, o meglio, Zio Gianni, anche se con me non c'è nessun legame di sangue, c'è un legame ancora più forte, quello dell'amicizia, l'amicizia creata con la mia famiglia, da più di 50 anni, sin da Bambini. Lo zio dell'America, ogni volta che stavo da Luca, Alessio, Angelica, <3 Angelina <3 e Genesio e arrivava una tua chiamata, era la cosa più bella del mondo. Mi mancherai tantissimo, e purtroppo quella promessa di ritrovarci negli States non si avvererà più.

It takes a lot for me to genuinely have a conversation with a man and enjoy it , well this man was one of the few that I enjoyed hearing from! The world has truly lost a great man and one that truly made a impact on anyone who ever came in contact with him and to the family I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Too many memories to share for Gianni was my brother for 38 years. It fills my heart with  immeasurable sorrow to know your breath-taking tight hugs won't be received on my next visit. I am confident you will be surrounded by God's angels: your mom, dad, sister and brother. I know you will look over my sister, your kids and family who so dearly will cherish their lives spent with you. ❤
