Lloyd Eugene Parn passed away on the morning of August 24, 2022 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. He was born on October 1, 1941 at his family’s farm near Timewell, Illinois to his late parents, Hubert and Gertrude Parn. Lloyd was married to his wife Betty for 58 years, whom he loved dearly, and in his own words “the only woman he has ever loved”.
After working hard on his family farm and graduating high school, he served in the Navy aboard the air craft carrier USS Hornet CVS-12. After the military, he worked for the US Department of Agriculture with the Soil Conservation Service, Foreign Agriculture Service and the Office of Management Services. He ended his long civil servant career working for the Department of Justice with the Law Enforcement Administration and the Office of Justice programs.
After Lloyd retired he was able to do what he really loved. He was an avid and very accomplished wood worker for many years. This was his passion and he did it well. He could repair any piece of antique furniture you gave him to make it look like the original. He would also create pieces of woodworking “art” from scratch. His favorite project was building a large colonial home in Boscobel farms, which was one of three homes he was general contractor on.
Lloyd was a very giving man and would give anyone the shirt off his back. He never spent a lot of money on himself but was known for leaving very large tips for servers, giving his adult children gas money and insisting anyone that helped him with anything to take money for it. He would NOT take no for an answer. The cracker barrel and Captain D'S servers in Fredericksburg will miss him greatly as will the friends he made while walking around Spotsylvania mall for daily exercise. He was very humble and never wanted to take anything from anyone else but only wanted to give. He loved feeding the birds every morning and planting flowers every spring.
He was not only a father but a best friend to his son, William Lloyd Parn, also known as Billy. They shared many common interests including; investing, gardening, home projects and the daily news.
Lloyd loved Nascar racing, which he enjoyed watching as many Sundays as possible with his bonus grandson, Daniel.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; two children, Bill and Kate; stepson, Frank; three grandchildren, Zachary, Ashley and Jacob; step-granddaughter, Jeny; three siblings, Leona, Gail and Mary.
Along with his parents, his sister, Adelaine preceded him in death.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no funeral service. Although a service would be healing for most of us, we are respecting his wishes. Lloyd was Lloyd and he never wanted to put anyone out of their way. He never wanted to be the center of attention as his heart was focused outward towards others.
The family would greatly appreciate any positive memories or funny excerpts of Lloyd that you can remember to be posted on his online obituary at https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/10903036
This will help us to celebrate his life in memory even if we can not be there in person.
