Hue Quoc Lam, age 76 of Lynnwood, Washington passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 15, 2026. Hue was born to Quoc Du Lam and Phượng Thieu Vuong on December 15, 1949 in Saigon, Vietnam. Sadly, Hue’s father passed away after he was born so he never got to know him.
In 1976, Hue met Hong Chau and after courting her for 2 years, he asked to marry her. Shortly after, the pair decided to leave war-torn South Vietnam and seek a new life in America. After several attempts to flee the country, Hue was detained and separated from his wife by communist police, then put in jail. Not knowing she was already pregnant with their child, Hong was left on the refugee boat to make the treacherous escape alone.
Hue would learn that his only son David (Hoi) Chau Lam was born 7 months later at a refugee camp in Malaysia. In late 1980, Hong and David were sponsored by family members to settle in America, here in the great PNW. Hue spent the next 10 years longing to reunite with his family. He worked various jobs and kept a positive outlook by regularly writing letters to Hong. He often visited Hong’s parents and younger sisters (who also remained in Vietnam) to share pictures of his wife and little boy, expressing hopes and aspirations for their future life together.
In 1985, Hong successfully passed her U.S. Citizenship test and would become Hue’s sponsor within the next 5 years. In 1990, the wait was finally over - Hue stepped onto American soil, reunited with Hong, and met David for the first time. Thus began the next chapter of their new life together.
Hue worked hard his whole life to support his family. He worked at a glass cutting business and at several restaurants around Seattle, including the acclaimed Wild Ginger. He was always comfortable in the kitchen and had an excellent palette. In 2010, Hue hung up his apron to take on the best and most rewarding job - Grandpa or “YehYeh” as the kids call him.
Hue was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife Hong, son David (and spouse April) Lam, by four grandchildren, Joshua, William, Evelyn, and Oliver, his three sisters and one brother.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills on Friday, October 2nd, 2026. Please visit https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/13041901 to leave your condolences on Hue’s online guestbook.
