Ruth Elaine (White) Dobson, 95, of Hopkinton, NH passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at Pine Rock Manor in Warner, NH, with her beloved family by her side. She was born in Portland, ME on November 11, 1929, to her late parents Winfield Stanley and Edith Maude (Smith) White. After high school, Ruth continued her education and received her degree in nursing. She worked for several years as a registered nurse at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
In a simple ceremony on February 29, 1952, Ruth married the love of her life Ernest Dobson. Instead of having an anniversary once every four years, they celebrated their marriage on February 28th. After a transfer to the Manchester, NH area, she and her husband settled in Hopkinton to raise their family. Ruth, who was known as a selfless and caring woman, would often help those who were less fortunate than herself. Ruth enjoyed the many simple pleasures in life from antiquing, shopping, sharing a simple meal with family and friends, and bowling, especially with her husband’s work bowling league. During her youth, Ruth was a member of the Rainbow Girls. Ruth touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished, and missed by all.
Ruth was many things to many different people, she was a daughter, a nurse, a wife, but her most cherished role was being a mother. She devoted her life to her family and her values were passed down through her children and grandchildren. As the cherished matriarch of her family, Ruth is survived by her four children; her daughter Elaine Dobson Collins of Warner, NH, her daughter Debra Jean Fournier of Salisbury, NH, her son David Winfield Dobson of Gilmanton, NH and her son Brian Joseph Dobson and his wife Donna of Washington, NH, her eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Janet Ellsworth of Augusta GA. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Ernest E. Dobson, with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage until his passing in 2019.
A graveside funeral service for Ruth will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Pine Grove Cemetery, 9 Waites Landing Rd., Falmouth, Maine 04105.
