Benjamin Daniel Brewster, age 34, passed away at his home in Edmonds, Washington on Friday, February 19, 2021. He was born on May 6, 1986 in Tacoma, Washington to Daniel Lee and Monica Gale (Perry) Brewster. Upon Dan’s graduation from law school the family moved back to Alaska, where Ben grew up playing multiple sports, including wrestling, football, baseball and basketball. Later in life, Ben always looked forward to softball season and playing softball with his friends and teammates in Washington.
Ben loved his family and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints along with the rest of his family. Ben was a master fisherman who loved Alaska and all things fishing. Even as a youngster Ben had the patience to fish from morning to night. His famous line was, “Oh, just one more cast, it’s just getting good!” Even after moving to Washington in 2009, Ben returned to Alaska regularly for fishing trips with his family. Ben was a gentle giant, large in stature, heart and spirit. He was compassionate, loving and charitable and often would drop whatever he was doing to help others. He had a beautiful mind and an extraordinary memory, remembering stories and things he learned in his early school years with amazing recall. Ben enjoyed playing his guitar and singing for his friends and family. Ben liked his groceries--his skills at barbecuing were legendary and a cookout with Ben was not to be missed. Ben had many interests and was constantly reading and expanding his knowledge about the world around him. He particularly loved to debate and exchange ideas. There was almost no subject about which Ben didn’t have an opinion--or couldn’t come up with one--and few topics where he couldn’t hold his own in a debate. Despite his strong views and convictions, he always listened carefully, kept an open mind, and respected other points of view—all of which allowed him to discuss different views without rancor and, when necessary, to disagree without being disagreeable. Ben was very close with his recovery community and worked hard to be a peer and source of strength for those working towards sobriety. As shared by one of his close friends, Ben had a gift for making people feel like they were his best friend.
In 2016, Ben was blessed with a daughter, Meadow Ryan, who quickly came to mean the world to Ben. They had a close and loving relationship as Ben worked hard to be the best dad he knew how to be. Ben is survived by his daughter, Meadow, his parents, Dan and Monica, brothers Roger Kehler, Cameron, Christopher, Tristan, and Lincoln Brewster, sisters Melissa and Alexandra Brewster and Stephanie Paulson, and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brother Ryan and infant sister, Celeste.
