Bastrop, Texas – Jonathan David Hogue, age 76, passed away on September 4, 2024 after a rich full life. He was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
David Hogue was born on November 7, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Jonathan Clifton Hogue and Vesta Lee Hogue. He grew up in South Oak Cliff Dallas and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School. After graduation he started his career as a painter by trade, but early on began his leap into the construction field; all the while continuing his education at Eastfield Jr. College, Trinity University, and American College of Real Estate. This launched him into every facet of the building industry including but not limited to residential homes, subdivision development, commercial building and remodeling, but he found his niche through Tim Smith, a dear friend, building assisted living centers and nursing homes.
He married Laura A. Hogue on December 17, 1984, and together they had two children: Jonathan B. Hogue and David A. Hogue. He also cherished the time he spent with his other children: Shelly Dever and Kristi Craig. Laura, along with his children, remembers him as a loving and supportive husband and father.
David had a passion for hunting, fishing, golfing, flying, and scuba diving. He was known for his involvement as past Vice President of Hidalgo County Home Builders’ Association, Director of Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, Past President and Board member of Edinburg Lions Club and National Association of Home Builders. Known for his punctual motto, "If you are on time… You’re late," he left an indelible mark on his community and industry.
He is survived by his wife Laura Hogue, his children Shelly Dever, Kristi Craig and husband Brian, Jonathan B. Hogue and wife Claire, and David A. Hogue; his grandchildren Cody Dever, Haily Martinez, Cayden Craig, Alera Craig, J. Riley Hogue, Tyler Hogue; his great-grandchild Evelyn Martinez; his sister Lila Davidson and partner Albert Aufforth; and his brother by choice, Bobby Blaise Ledbetter.
