Nick served his beloved country in the United States Marine Corps for 27 years before honorably retiring in 2001 at the highest attainable enlisted rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant (E9). His decorated Marine career included earning 9 medals, 6 ribbons, and multiple stars. He also received a personal commendation from, then, Colonel Boomer (later Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps) for his leadership of the Marine Security Guard Detachment of the US Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal. Throughout his Marine Corps career and numerous deployments including combat service, his family proudly supported him. Reflecting upon his tremendous Marine Corps career, Nick commented that the greatest gift the Marine Corps afforded him has been his family - wife Elizabeth, daughter Charissa, and son Nicholas Jr.
After retirement, Nick continued his service to others by helping family, neighbors and community. He developed a passion for offshore fishing and was a long-time member of the Old Timers Club out of the Oceanside Harbor.
Nick and his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth, fostered a very close family. Nick is survived by his wife, their daughter Charissa, her husband Omar Gillette, their son Nicholas Jr. and his wife Kim. Their surviving Grandchildren are Elizabeth, Adrianne, and Charissa-Irene Gillette, and Nicholas Norbert III.
Nick was the fourth-eldest of 8 siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Donald (Butch), Sandy, and Joseph. He is survived by siblings Irene, Richard, Nancy, and John.
