Dorothy Wickham Waleski

Dorothy Wickham Waleski, age 96, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019. Dorothy was the daughter of James Sommerville Wickham and Verna in Montpelier, Virginia. She was born on May 13, 1922. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Frank Waleski, her parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Waleski was an active member of the Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She served as a Sunday School Teacher and President of Woman’s Mission Union. She was active on the Associational level, serving as President at Blue Ridge Federation of Business Women.
She was a 63 year member of the Martinsville Chapter # 66, a 65 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as the Worthy Matron 1960-1961 and as lecturer for the 11th District. She was also Grand Committee Chairman.
Dorothy was active in the Patrick Henry Chapter Daughters of American Revolution for more than 40 years, Mildred Lee Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, Bassett Garden Club and was a life-time member of the Virginia Federation at Garden Clubs and a charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Arthur Frank Waleski and daughter-in-law, Donna Boyd Waleski; one grandson, Alex Frank Waleski; two step-grandchildren, Kerribeth Luderman and John Rodgers; one sister,Verna W. Graff, and a number of very special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Collins Funeral Home Chapel, 30 Riverside Drive, Bassett, VA 24055, from 6 pm – 8 pm. The funeral service will be Thursday, May 2, 2019 at 11:00 am at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, 120 Bassett Heights Road, Bassett, VA 24055. The interment will be Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Protestant Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 17102 Mountain Rd., Montepelier, VA 23192. Memorials may be made to Prayer Garden Perpetual Care Fund, Glen Allen Baptist Church, 3028 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Online condolences may be made at www.collinsmckeestonebassett.com.
