Obituary of Mary (Nicholson) Gibson Ditzer
Mary (Nicholson) Gibson Ditzer What a glad reunion Mary is having as she walks the streets of gold with Jesus as He shows her her new home. She is once again with family and friends as they worship Jesus around His throne. Mary died at home on Wednesday, March 31, from a massive stroke. She was born September 14, 1932, to the late Richard and Ruth Waters Nicholson, one of nine children in the Nicholson clan. While on earth, Mary graduated from Reitz High School where she was a cheerleader and a class officer for the class of 1950. She was employed at the Federal Produce Company where she met her husband of over 50 years, William T. (Bud) Gibson. She worked at Keller Crescent and TriState Printing Company. The work she enjoyed most was at Westwood Church (formerly 12th Avenue General Baptist) where she taught DVBS, the Kingdom Builders Women’s Class and was named Mother of the Year. Mary was a mother to all her precious—as she called them—church family members. Mary was an encourager, sending notes to anyone who needed inspiring Scriptural words. Posts from her many nieces and nephews describe their Aunt Mary this way: “Sweet Aunt Mary”, “few people will ever be as sweet and as good”, “She was my inspiration for who I would like to be”, “She brought joy to others”. Caring, thoughtful, loving, the very best, and always praying were other tributes. Mary was preceded in death by Bud Gibson and her second husband Kenneth Ditzer, her parents, and brothers Robert Joseph Nicholson, David Isaac Nicholson and sister Jeanne Marie Shoulders. Grieving, but with hope, are her two sons, Phillip Dale (Karen) Gibson and Gregory Lee (Gina) Gibson; her grandchildren who knew “if they needed prayer to call mamaw” are Brandon (Ketsuda) and Joshua (Tabitha) Gibson, Ashley (Jeremy) Lepper, Lisa (Dan) Filippello, Whitney (Jeffrey) Albrecht, Phillip (Marah) Gibson; and eleven great grandchildren. Mary is survived by her brothers, Richard Earl, James, and Eddye Wayne Nicholson; sisters, Bettye Jayne Fleming and Jackie DeVoy Lovelace; and sister-in-law Sheila Nicholson. Funeral services for who we lovingly called Saint Mary will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Westwood Church, 121 S.
