Obituary of Richard "Dick" Leon Everling
Richard “Dick” Leon Everling, Morgantown, IN passed away on July 25, 2021 at IU Methodist Hospital due to complications from heart surgery. Dick was born to Lester Everling and Garnet (Ford) Everling on May, 13, 1940 at home in Morgan County. He was a graduate of Helmsburg High School. Dick married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Scrougham, on March 14, 1974 in Bloomington, IN. He was a caring father to 4 children: Donna Hall, Indianapolis, Jeff Everling, Martinsville, Lisa (Steve) Shaner, Morgantown and Leslie (Kevin) Sims, Columbus. He has 1 sister, Sandi (Roy) Giovannoni, Fresno, CA. Dick also had 9 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. Dick’s other loves included visiting casinos, especially playing the slots. Day trips to state parks and everything nature had to offer. Dick and Joyce walked the Salt Creek Trail nearly every day. He took numerous trips out west. Deadwood, SD and Devil’s Tower were a few of his favorite places. He was a history buff and loved learning about American Indians. He was also an avid reader, especially westerns and mysteries. Dick started working at Tousley-Bixler in Indianapolis while still in high school where he worked for nearly 3 decades. He worked with his Uncle Froggie and became known as Tadpole to his coworkers. He hated this nickname throughout his life. He also worked at both the Brown County Water Utility and the Brown County Highway Dept. and eventually went to work for the Indiana Dept. of Transportation before retiring in 2005. He was proceeded in death by his parents and 2 infant sons. We have no doubts that he was welcomed into loving arms. Dick was a hard worker who loved talking and striking up a conversation with anyone he met. He always woke up early after retirement to meet up with friends for early morning coffee and gossip. We’ll miss everything about him. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in the near future to share stories of Dick with family and friends. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.BondMitchellFuneralHome.com for the Everling family.
