Omer Keith Blakley June 6, 1939 – July 15, 2019 On July 15, 2019, at the home he was so proud of, on the land that he loved, surrounded by family, Omer took his final breath on earth and his first breath in Heaven at 4:29 pm. Omer’s journey began on June 6, 1939, where he was born in Connersville, Indiana, to Maxine (Powell) and Edward Blakley. He graduated from Alquina High School in 1956. On March 3, 1958, he entered the US Navy, where he was stationed on the USS Breckonridge, with his favorite port being Guam. After his discharge from the Navy on March 2, 1962, Omer returned to Liberty, where he met and married Patsy Hobbs on November 9, 1962. Not one to sit and be idle, Omer kept busy throughout the years by running a livestock farm, while raising a family and working full time. He was employed by Philco Ford/Visteon from 1964 until his retirement in 2003. His hobbies included traveling, fishing, working puzzles, watching westerns, spending time with his family and taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren out for ice cream. Omer is survived by his wife, Patsy, two daughters: Karen Blakley Haver of Ellicott City, Maryland and Jennifer Blakley of Liberty; a son: Bryan Blakley of Liberty; seven grandchildren: Cody (Mary) Blakley of Connersville, Justin (Erin) Blakley of Burrton, KS, Albonne Blakley of Chicago, IL, Cierra Blakley of Liberty, Jordan (Ryan) Deutsch of Ewa Beach, HI, Justin Haver and Jalynn Haver of Ellicott City, MD; seven great-grandchildren: James Lynch, Michael Lynch, Kennedy Isaac, Rebel Blakley, Aedan Duetsch, Owen Keith Blakley and Teagan Haver; a sister: Penny Hensley and three brothers: Ronald Blakley, Randy Hensley and Marty Hensley; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son: Steven, his mother: Maxine Hensley, step-father: Curtis Hensley, father: Ed Blakley, step-mother: Zola Blakley, mother-in-law: Henrietta Hobbs, two brothers: Leon Blakley and Larry Blakley, a step-brother: Doug Farler, two sisters-in law: Melodee Blakley and Jana Hensley, a nephew: Jon Breese, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel in Liberty with Pastor Nick Senior officiating. Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery in Connersville, with military honors provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12:00 pm Saturday until the time of the service where memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Community Church.
