Jerry M. Chandler

Jerry M. Chandler, 82, passed away Thursday, July 23 at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, IN. He was born on December 20, 1937 in Lawrence County, IN and was the son of Earl and Ruth Chandler. He attended Mitchell High School and graduated in 1957. After high school, he joined the Indiana National Guard Reserves. Jerry married Sally Cummings in 1958 and were married 55 years when she passed away in 2013. Together they had two daughters. He built his career at Cummins in Plant 1 working as a tool maker and parts inspector. He retired in 1987 after 28 years. Jerry was an accomplished marksman and loved spending time at the Ceraland shooting range. He was also a member of the Hoosier Beemers Motorcycle Club. He and his wife traveled all over the United States and several other countries on their motorcycle. Jerry is survived by his daughters, Becky (Michael) Collins and Dawn (Michael) Matheny, both of Columbus; his brother, Michael (Judy) Chandler of Bedford, IN; grandchildren, Cameron (Hanna Morgan) Collins of Indianapolis, IN, Kiel (Laura Burnett) Eldridge of Bloomington, IN, Haley Eldridge of Kansas City, MO, Michaela (Caleb) Ayew-ew of Kentwood, MI, and Mykala Matheny of Chicago, IL; and great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Elliana Ayew-ew. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally; two brothers, Howard and Morgan Chandler; his sister, Carole Anderson; and his birth mother, Beatrice Chandler. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's name may be made to the "We Care" Fund through Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center 651 State Street Franklin, Indiana 46131 or the Bartholomew County Public Library. At this time no services are planned. Jerry's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center and Heart to Heart Hospice for the compassion and care they provided.
