Obituary of John Wesley Sexton
John Wesley Sexton of Alexandria, Virginia, was called Home on October 15, 2020 while at Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, Virginia following a long illness. John was born in Fairfax County on November 3, 1970. He was preceded in death by his Father, James Bryce Sexton and infant sisters, Baby Jan and Christie Sexton. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Ann Sexton, of Orange Park, Florida; his Mother, Janice S. Sexton of Falls Church, VA; his brother, James Sexton (Colleen) of Manassas, VA; Niece Lauren Doroski, (Josh), and niece Lily, of Gainesville, VA; Niece Danielle Howery (Shane), and nephew Ayden, of Manassas, VA; Aunt Pauline Bass of Winfield, Alabama; Uncle Carl Sexton (Jean) of Calera, Alabama; numerous cousins, in addition to a loving Aunt Anne Sale of Nokesville, VA, who has been of immeasurable support in John’s medical care and who served many dinners to him as he would stop by to visit his Uncle Wiley upon his return from numerous fishing trips. John graduated from J.E.B.Stuart High School in Falls Church, VA. John worked for Walmart for 25 years in the Sporting Goods department. He maintained an impeccable dedication to his work, always on time, using his scheduled days off rather than taking sick leave for medical appointments. John enjoyed Sporting games, keeping up with all the teams and players. Most of all, John loved Road trips and the Outdoors and often traveled to the beautiful countryside to practice his favorite pastime of Fishing. He knew every road, river, stream and pond for miles and miles in every direction. His favorite was the Shenandoah River and Blue Ridge Mountains, which had long ago been the home of his Grandmother. He also loved to visit the outdoor markets and orchards where he picked his own strawberries and other specialties. He often surprised his Mom and his Wife with those, along with special potted plants he found on his travels. He enjoyed discovering new restaurants. John was honest, strong and courageous, had a sense of humor, a quiet, kind and gentle spirit and a tender spot for little children and animals. A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at 1:00 PM at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway (Route 29) Falls Church, VA 22042 (703-560-4400). Our family is grateful for the love and prayers of all who have been there for us through this difficult journey. John received outstanding tender loving care during his final weeks from all the Angels at Hospice, including the Doctors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Capital Caring Health - Halquist MIC, 4715 North 15th Street, Arlington, Virginia 22205.
