Charles D. Nicholson

Charles D. Nicholson, 92, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2021. Charles was born on September 16, 1928 to the late E. Pearl and J. Waldo Nicholson. He joined the Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean War on USS LST 973 until 1952 when he was honorably discharged and received numerous awards and medals for his service. While on leave in January, 1950, he came home to marry the love of his life and the woman who would remain with him for the next 70 years, M. Marcia (Tillman) Nicholson. His beloved wife preceded him in death just 3 weeks ago on December 15, 2020. Charles was a plumber with Industrial Contractors for 28 years and was a proud member of Local 136 for 67 years. He retired in 1990 and he and Marcia were fortunate to be able to travel all over the United States and Europe which they both enjoyed immensely. He is survived by his children, Mike Nicholson (Sandy) of The Woodlands, TX, Jerri Ann Koressel of Evansville, Ken Nicholson (Shelly) of Evansville, Steve Nicholson (Julie) of Newburgh, and Don Nicholson (Holly) of Fernandina Beach, FL.; His grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle, Kyle, Adam, Ryan, Seth, Evan, Benjamin, Taylor, Maxwell, Logan, Alexa, and Jessa; and nine great-grandchildren, Tyler Koressel, Aiden, Rylynn, Lillian, Zander, Finely, Owen, Madelyn, and Hazel. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Jo Bell, Doris Mae Bremkamp, and Judy Reed. Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, John Bob, Kenny, Jerry, and James Nicholson; sister, Mary Edith McGowan; grandson, Bobby Koressel; and great-granddaughter, Kensley Howard. Due to COVID concerns, there will be no visitation. Private Graveside Services will be held with the immediate family only on Monday, January 11, 2021. A celebration of Charles’s life will be held at a later time.
