Obituary of Kathleen Clara Wood
It is with profound sadness that the family of Kathleen Clara Wood announces her passing. Kathleen was born on April 16, 1923 in Staines, England and passed away peacefully on May 15, 2019 in Abbotsford, BC, with daughter, Sharon, by her side. Kathleen was born an only child to Robert Newton Hall and Sarah Theresa Callaghan. She had a happy childhood living on the grounds of the borstal in Feltham and cherished the lifelong friendships she had made there. She also enjoyed spending summers on the family farm in southern Ireland. During WW2 Kathleen joined the Women’s Royal Naval Service and was seconded to the secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park where she worked decoding messages. She met and married RCAF flying officer, Hugh Wood, and came to Canada as a war bride after Hugh was medically discharged from service. Kathleen was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her children, Janet (Larry) Groves, Kevin (Loretta) Wood, Sharon Raine, and Craig (Marina) Wood; grandchildren, Cameron (Pam) Groves, Christopher (Andrée) Groves, Jessica Wood, Tyler (Cassandra) Wood, Derek (Jill) Raine, Karli (Peter) Sawka, Brandon Wood, Natasha Wood; great-grandchildren, Alex, Mac, Kiera, Brooklyn, Jacob, Brittany, Aliya, Devon and also Karli’s little Bébé Bean due September 1; and granddogs, Omar and Reyka. Mum gave us a home filled with laughter, baking, music, books, kindness, encouragement, support and most importantly unconditional love. We miss her terribly. “til we meet again” No service by request.
