Lucy Ellen Greenwood

Lucy Ellen Greenwood (nee Browne), late of Abbotsford, BC, passed away on June 21, 2019 at the age of 104 years 9½ months at Menno Home. She is survived by her daughters, Anne Nurse (Lester) and Bette Greenwood; grandchildren, Jerry Kittel (Mary), Elizabeth Nurse (David), and Steven Nurse (Bailey); as well as great-grandchildren, Jacqueline, Alexander, Chloe, Clara, Zeppelin and Monroe. Lucy was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and community leader. Born in Trout Mills (Northern Ontario), she grew up in Kenville, Manitoba. After marrying Earl Greenwood she continued to reside in Kenville with their growing family of three (Lyle, Anne and Bette) until 1975. She had many happy memories of her life in Kenville. She excelled at school and taught for a period of time before her marriage and again later when her family was grown. Always a leader, she took an active role in the community. She loved sports, especially bowling and curling. In 1975 she and Earl moved to Chilliwack, BC to be near many family members. That changed with Earl passing in 1991 and Lyle in 2005. She was the eldest of eight and her siblings except for one (Ellen Smith age 97) have passed through the years. She loved her family and was content with her life. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, Abbotsford, BC with Chaplain Ingrid Schultz officiating. Interment will be held at Chilliwack Cemeteries, 10010 Hillcrest Dr., Chilliwack, BC. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
