Obituary of Stephen Alexander Hall
Stephen Alexander Hall ,age 61, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly while on vacation on July 4th 2019 at Barkerville, B.C. He is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Jane; their children Victoria (David), Tristan (Sara), Adrian (Robyn) and his three much loved grandchildren; Evangeline, Liliana and Cohen as well as his brother Wayne (Doreen) and family in Halifax N.S. and many more family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John Robert Hall and Eva Mae Corner also from Halifax. Steve was born and spent his early life in Halifax N.S. He attended St Patrick’s High School before graduating from Mt. St. Vincent University in 1981. He was then hired by Corrections Canada (Pacific Region) and made the move to B.C. to begin his career. He worked as a Living Unit Officer, Correctional Officer and Correctional Supervisor and was awarded the Exemplary Service Medal in 2007. He retired from Corrections in 2012. Shortly after moving to B.C. in 1981 Steve was introduced to his future wife Jane. They were married in May 1984 and recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary together. Steve was very proud of their children, Victoria, Tristan and Adrian and he loved them all very much. Steve was a dedicated member of the Kinsmen Club of Abbotsford and had many ‘Kin' friends that he shared good times with over the years. After his retirement Steve joined the Abbotsford Restorative Justice and Advocacy Association where he volunteered as a mediator. It was a role he enjoyed. Steve lived his life by his own rules. He was stubborn but kind hearted and had a great (slightly warped) sense of humor. He was proud to say he was from Halifax and one of his favorite things to do was to tell his much loved grandchildren stories about his life as a child, the Halifax Explosion and his adventures at work. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his brother Wayne, exchanging emails, jokes and photos. Steve always had his own sense of ‘style’, wearing his favorite Hawaiian shirts in the summer, plaid shirts in winter and always a crazy Christmas outfit on Christmas morning. Steve loved rock and roll music and always enjoyed attending concerts with friends and family. Some of his favorites were Lighthouse, Bob Seger, The Eagles, Chicago, B.T.O. …the list was endless. He appreciated a good craft beer or visit to a craft brewery (and occasionally brought home a weird, funky beer that nobody would drink) and always looked forward to BBQ season so he could make his famous pulled pork a few times. Steve did some traveling and whether it was a cruise to Alaska or Hawaii, a trip ‘back East' or across the ocean, or a road trip with his sons….he was always up for the adventure. Steve shared his stories and “Steve-isms” with everyone, interspersed with colorful language ( “caching, ca-ching” his grandkids would say….another quarter for the swear jar/college fund) and he made us laugh. He left us too soon but he will live on through our shared memories. Please feel free to share your ‘Steve' stories and memories with his family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Henderson’s Fraser Valley Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or Plan Canada.
