Sarah Ann McClendon

Sarah McClendon passed away on May 8, 2019 at the age of 88. Born and raised near Brookhaven, Mississippi in 1930, Sarah Ann grew up on a small farm with a creek running through it. She graduated from Mississippi College and became an English teacher. In 1954 she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she met and married Jim Bilderbeck with whom she had two children. She taught English in high school at Crooms in Sanford and Gateway in Kissimmee. She was the founder and first president of the Seminole County League of Women Voters. With the League, she worked to improve the county parks, schools, and libraries and to educate voters on the issues. After she retired, she married Jack H. McClendon, a retired military officer and engineer. She is survived by her two children, Keith and Karla Bilderbeck, and her grandson James Bilderbeck.
