Billie Joe Applewhite

Billie Joe Applewhite 85, of Amarillo passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. He was born October 19, 1933 in Plainview, Texas to Joseph Ralph Applewhite and Estella Summers McGaha Applewhite. He married Burlene Adams on July 17, 1954 in Olton, Texas. Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country for 30 years. He worked as an Accountant at Nunn Manufacturing for four years. Bill and Burlene both worked as Regional Directors for Winnebago Travel Club for many years. Bill loved watching westerns, playing solitaire and he loved to cook. Bill was a deacon at Paramount River Road Campus. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife Burlene; his son Michael Wayne Applewhite, six brothers and one sister. He is survived by his two daughters, Gaylia Fern Wilshanetsky of Athens, Ohio and Cheryl Diane Markley and husband Chris of Amarillo. Six grandchildren, Olena Wilshanetsky of Athens, Ohio and Kyle, Miles, Nate, Michael and Kaitlyn Markley, all of Amarillo. His brother in law, Earl K. Dallas of Pampa, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggest that donations be made in Bill’s honor to BSA Hospice of the Southwest or Michaeljfox.org
