Annie Banadyga

Annie Banadyga (Strange) Mom was born Annie Strange on April 20, 1926 at home on her family’s farm near Nut Mountain, Sask. She was the third in a family of four siblings to parents Joseph and Faith Strange. Annie attended Omar country school, graduating from Grade 9, and kept very busy helping at home with farm work, and in the house and garden. She attended an intensive private seamstress course in Saskatoon. She used these extensive sewing skills well into her senior years, sewing for people and her children, grandchildren, even great-grandchildren. In July of 1952, Annie married Mike Banadyga and they had three children, Leon, Denise and Ken. As well as keeping the home and children going, she also worked side by side with Dad with much of the farm work, especially with milking cows, separating cream, and making butter and bread. She also worked hard at haying time and harvest time. All summer, Dad had his morning and afternoon coffee and lunch, usually in the field, which was made and usually delivered by Mom. We remember her almost always singing around the house when we were kids and always coming up with just the right song at just the right time when she was asked to sing, at the drop of a hat, at some community function. Annie was also active in her church choir as well as in other church organizations. She was active as well in her later years with senior’s organizations and she loved dancing at the seniors dances. She moved into West Side Court in Assiniboia in the fall of 2010. For the first time in her life, she found herself living where she didn’t know anyone and away from all she was familiar with. In fairly short order, she had made some good friends and was again active in the senior scene. Coffee time, cards (especially cribbage), jigsaw puzzles, reading, and visiting took up a good part of her time. She found great enjoyment and ease during her time there and was grateful for the relationships that were made. Annie was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Faith Strange, her husband Mike, her sister Jean, her brothers Bob and Joe as well as several nieces and nephews. She is survived, and will be missed, by her son Leon (Donna), her daughter Denise, and her son Ken (Malvena) as well as grandchildren Tyler (Kim), Bree (Mark), Morgan, Marcella (Sean) and Michelle (John); seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Annie passed away January 1, 2019 in the Regina General Hospital at the age of 92 years. Many thanks to Hutch Ambulance, Assiniboia Union Hospital, Regina General Hospital MICU, and Ross Funeral Service for being there when they were needed most, with prompt, professional and compassionate service. Mom spent her life working hard, enjoying much and helping others always. Rest easy and well Mom, you have certainly earned it. Memorial Service for Annie was held Monday, January 7, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia. Anette Pryce presided. Interment was held at Kelvingrove Cemetery, Kelvington, Sask. on Wednesday, January 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Shirley Payne officiating.
