Judy Schiml, of Mankota, SK passed away December 17, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Gravelbourg, SK at age 68. Judy is predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Herman (Dec. 2, 2018); her father Jack Barker; sister Betty Baragar (2018); sister-in-law Isabelle Barker (2015); son David (2006); in-laws Hans and Dorothy Schiml. She is survived by her mother Millie Barker; children: Kelly (Wendy), David (dec’d) (Tammy), Glen (Lorri), River, and Karen (Daryl); grandchildren: Steve (Melissa), Mike (Janelle), Nicole (Brody), Kerri (Darcy), Brooke, Cheyenne and William; great-grandchildren: Grayson, Ryker, Beaux, Ryeligh and Dallas; brother Allan Barker; brothers-in-law Dennis Baragar and Henry Schiml as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Judith Elaine was born June 12, 1950 in Mankota Hospital to Jack and Millie Barker. She was raised on the family ranch located in the prairie hills 30 kms south of Mankota. Judy, along with older brother Allan and younger sister Betty, attended Wideview School. In 1962 the family moved to the current family farm 10 kms south of Mankota. She attended Summercove Country School and Mankota Elementary then high school in Glenworth, Kincaid and Mankota, where she graduated in 1967. After graduating high school at age 17, Judy went on to University of Regina, College of Education 1967-1969. Upon achieving her Standard A Teaching Certificate Judy accepted a position at the school in Loon Lake, SK. It was here that Judy met Herman Schiml, a widower with four boys ranging in age from two to eight years. They fell in love and married in October 1971. Judy continued to teach (when time permitted), until the spring of 1975 when the family moved to Mankota to help Jack and Millie with the expanding farm/ranch operations. Graveside service will be held in June 12, 2019 at the Mankota Cemetery with Ruby Sayers officiating. Donations in memory of Judy may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Inc.
