In the evening of November 2, 2018, Leo Edward Marcenko, age 90, passed away with family at his side at Providence Place, Moose Jaw, SK. Leo was born March 22, 1928 on the Family Homestead east of Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan. In his early years he worked on the family farm and then at the young age of 19 he moved to Hamilton to work for International Harvester for a little over a year and then moved back home and was a Bachelor for a number of years. On Nov 12, 1952 Leo Married Emilie Lawrick at Elm Springs Orthodox Church. They lived the first year of their marriage at Emilie’s Dad’s (Daniel Lawrick). They had ranch land at Hay Meadow Road where they kept cattle for Leo’s Dad Titus. They repaired the old ranch house and moved there in 1953 on their first Wedding Anniversary. They lived there for six years and in 1960 they purchased Leo’s Dad’s farm. Emilie and Leo spent many happy years working on the farm, they were both musical and played at dances at Thornycroft and Parkers Bluff School in their early years and gardened together winning many awards at the Horticultural Show in Wood Mountain. Emilie passed away in 1999 and Leo continued to live on the farm for the next 11 years where he continued to farm, raise chickens and plant a large garden, which he proudly shared with family and friends. In 2010 at the age of 82, Leo’s health began to fail at which time he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and his family helped move him to St. Michael’s Assisted Living in Moose Jaw and later on he moved to Long Term Care at Providence Place where he spent the rest of his days. Leo, was predeceased by his wife Emilie (Lawrick) Feb 2, 1999, parents Titus (Nov, 1974) and Amelia (Nov 4, 1962), brothers Johnny, George, Ted, Willie and sister Margaret Karst. Leo, is survived by two daughters, Debra Lynn Olsen and Joanne Marie Sitter (Tim); granddaughters: Christina Lynn Hildebrand (Dennis), Angela Marie Cambridge (Doug), Kelsi Patricia Fernie (Steve) and Hayley Marie Sitter; great-grandchildren: Ashley Cambridge, Kaleb Cambridge, Hannah Hildebrand, Caillie Hildebrand and Carson Fernie and sister Lillian Egan. Orthodox Funeral Service was held Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, SK with Officiating Priest, Father Cosmin Vint. Interment followed at Ascension of Our Lord Orthodox Cemetery, Elm Springs, SK. Donations in memory of Leo may be made to the Saskatchewan’s Parkinson Disease Foundation.
