Obituary of Fernand Joseph Vallieres
Fernand Vallières was born in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, on December 14th, 1937. He was the second oldest in a family of six children. At the age of sixteen, Fern left home and travelled to Hearst for work to help support his family. His diligent work led to several promotions and he moved to the northern parts of Ontario where he did payroll for bush camps run by the major wood and paper mill company, Abitibi Price. It was there that he met Nicole Morin, a widow with two children, Dominique and Suzanne Létourneau. Fern married Nicole and they had two children together, the late Jean Vallières and Colombe Graham. A further promotion led Fern back to Iroquois Falls, now managing Abitibi Price’s payroll department in the main mill. He established his family in nearby Cochrane, where the children grew up and went to school. During this time, Fern held a private pilot licence and enjoyed flying but would most frequently be found on the water with a fishing rod. As empty nesters, he and Nicole moved to Mont-Laurier to be closer to their grand-children and to return Nicole to her Québécois roots. Fern was a hard-working man who upheld Christian values such as honesty, generosity, and hard work. By his friends, he was known as a respectable man, by his siblings, a loving man, by his wife, a faithful man, by his children, a responsible man, and by his grandchildren, a gentle man. In 2013, Fern was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He was moved to Toronto in 2015 to be cared for by his daughter Colombe and was later transferred to Sherwood Court Long Term Care Facility as his medical condition deteriorated. On June 4th, 2018, Fern had a significant cardiac arrest from which he did not recover. Surrounded by his wife and family members, Fern passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2018 to be with the Lord at age 80. He is survived by his wife, three children, and sixteen grand-children. He will be deeply missed. A Memorial Service will occur Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Sovereign Grace Church Toronto, 1555 King Road, King City, ON.
