Obituary of Antonia "Toni" Shuck
Antonia Shuck, age 90, of Austin passed away peacefully on September 27, 2019. She was born on April 13, 1929 in Madrid, Spain to Baldomero and Marta Garcia Abad. Antonia “Toni” grew up in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, the second youngest of 10 siblings. The war left the country devastated and families torn apart; Toni lost one brother as a casualty of war. In the 1950’s, Toni immigrated to England with her sister and brother-in-law. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital in London and was very proud of the fact that she worked in the same wing where all of the children of British Royalty were born. It was in Banbury, England that she met her husband of 55 years, Dale, who was stationed nearby at a U.S. Air Force Base. They married in 1963, adopted their daughter, Rose in 1965 and made various military moves before settling in Austin, Texas in 1972. Toni was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 35 years. She was very active in church activities at St. Ignatius Martyr until her health precluded her from continuing as a Eucharistic Minister. Even though Toni was extremely proud of becoming an American citizen, she was equally proud of all things from her native Spain. She loved to cook Paella and Spanish Tortilla and swore that Spanish wines were the best in the world. Toni is survived by her husband, Dale of Austin, TX and daughter, Rose of Louisville, KY.
