IN THE CARE OF
Rose Garden Chapel
Albert (Al) Theodore Gratland, 92, passed peacefully on June 4th, 2019 in the Shepherd’s Care facility in Barrhead, Alberta as Lorie sang him his favorite song “You Are My Sunshine”. Al was born June 7, 1926 in PouceCoupe, British Columbia to Jon Bernard Gratland and Susan Leticha McKeen-Gratland. On September 1, 1946, Albert married Mae Anderson. They lived happily together for 62 years, raising their three children: Brian, Bruce and Cheryl, until Mae’s passing from Alzheimer’s in 2009. Al found his calling when he took a position as a carpenter assistant at a lumberyard. Quickly learning he worked well with his hands and could make quick calculations, he left the position to construct homes in the Edmonton area. He and his family moved to Santa Barbara, California, where they lived until moving to The Woodlands, Texas in 1993. Al and Mae relocated to Barrhead, AB in 2007 where they lived until their deaths. Albert will be remembered for being a skilled craftsman, storyteller, and above all a world-class father and grandfather. Al is survived by his two children, Bruce Gratland and Cheryl Rudolph; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his sister Millie, and extended family and friends.
