Obituary of Thomas "Sonnie" Mahlon Woods Sr.
Thomas Mahlon Woods, Sr., "Sonnie", passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 24th at the age of 85. Sonnie Woods was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, co-worker, and friend. He was born on May 25, 1933 in Marion, VA and at the age of 16 he joined the U.S. Navy. He spent over 20 years in the Navy working as an electrician and receiving numerous awards and honors while traveling the world with his wife and children. After retiring from the Navy, Sonnie spent 20 years working for the D.C. government and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Not one to sit still after retiring, Sonnie then joined the family landscaping business, Naturally Green, and Complete Landscaping as a foreman. Sonnie was a skilled wood worker and repair man, always eager to fix anything and create stunning projects by hand. He instilled a strong work ethic and love and support of family, by setting a good example himself. Sometimes strict, but always caring, he was willing to help anyone and always made you feel welcomed and loved. Sonnie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bowie, MD. He is survived by his wife Charlotte Boswell Woods, his children Thomas Woods, Jr and his wife Judy, David Woods, James Woods and his wife, Carmen, and Christina Woods. Sonnie has four grandchildren Charlie Woods, Jade Pirecki, Mahlon Woods, III, and Rachel Russell as well as three great grandchildren Marley, Lincoln, and Aubrey. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters. Memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 1st from 6-8 pm at the Robert E. Evans funeral home 16000 Annapolis Road Bowie, MD. The Funeral mass and reception will be held on Thursday, May 2nd at 11 am at Sacred Heart Chapel 16501 Annapolis Road Bowie, MD. Interment is Private
