Obituary of Michael Bryan Irby
Michael Bryan Irby of Phoenixville, PA unexpectedly passed away from cancer at the Einstein Medical Hospital on Friday, August 30, 2019 at age 65. Born in Washington D.C., he was the son of William and Jean (Higgins) Irby. After graduating from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in 1972, Michael attended Temple University. Later, he transferred to the Antonelli School of Photography where he studied to become a professional photographer. Michael started his photography career with Jewelcor and his passion for commercial photography took him to Omaha, Nebraska where he worked for Pamida for over 15 years. He specialized in photos, advertising layout, and production schedules. With experience in traditional photography and digital work he then created his business, Mike Irby Photography. He took a great deal of pride in owning his own business and greatly enjoyed the many different clients he had the opportunity to work with. Michael played the drums in his youth and was a member of the Plymouth Whitemarsh marching band. He continued to drum from time to time long after his high school days. Then in 1977, he married his high school sweetheart, Susan. When he lived in Nebraska, he was an active member of his Presbyterian church serving on multiple committees. After he moved to Phoenixville, PA, he continued to practice his faith. Another passion of Michael’s was cooking. He could make any type of dish and enjoyed incorporating new ingredients. His talent was showcased at many family gatherings and other group events. He also loved animals, especially the family dog Lucy who they rescued from a shelter. Lucy had a special connection with him. Michael was a family man; he was a loyal son, spouse, father, brother, and grandfather. His focus was always on his loved ones. Survived by his wife, Susan Irby, the couple had three children: Adam (husband of Laura Soltys), Kristin (wife of Tom Hefferon), and Kaitlin. He has four grandchildren: Mya, Ryan, Claire, and Owen. Michael also has a sister, Karen, and with her husband Mark Soda they have three children (Michael’s niece and nephews). A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church in Norristown, PA. A visitation will be held prior starting at 9:15am. Inurnment is private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made for Kaitlin’s college education.
