Obituary of Joseph John Kovacs
Joseph John Kovacs was a craftsman, a patriotic Canadian soldier and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born August 24, 1921 in Brantford to Hungarian immigrants Joseph Kovacs and Julia Kayorie. He started work with Brantford Coach & Body, ( Jan 2, 1940 ) later Trailmobile Canada, prior to his service in World War II, becoming a skilled toolmaker. He retired from Trailmobile in 1986 with 46 years of service. Joseph joined the Canadian Army, and served overseas, in Belgium,The Netherlands and Germany in the Signal Corps from 1944 to 1946. He was a radio signaler with the Canadian Army 3rd Artillary Division. After returning home in 1946, he married Elizabeth Vigmond, also from Brantford. Joseph was a real handyman. Along with his brother Gene, he built homes for his brother and wife, his own family and also for his parents. Two children Gregory, born in 1951 and Loretta in 1955 grew up in the family home on Morrell Street. After retiring in 1986, he played shuffleboard with Brantford Seniors and also while he and Elizabeth enjoyed winters at their condo near West Palm Beach, until Elizabeth's death in 2011. Joseph moved to Mississauga in 2012 to be closer to his adult children. Joseph died March 14, 2019 at the Mississauga Hospital, aged 97. He leaves behind his son, Gregory (wife Valeria), his daughter Loretta (husband Denis O'Sullivan), grandchildren Alexander Kovacs, Monica Kovacs (Michel Audet), Christina Kovacs, Nicholas O’Sullivan, David O'Sullivan (Alena) and Jeanette O'Sullivan, and great-grandchildren Thomas and Dominic Audet His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Waverly Street, with internment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery on St Paul Ave.
