Obituary of Janice B. Greenfield
Janice Brockington Greenfield was born to Robert James Brockington and Mary Ida Carter Brockington on June 14, 1932 in Lucama, North Carolina (Wilson County). She departed this life on Thursday, August 8, 2019 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Janice was the second eldest child of seven siblings; She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior as a child and was baptized under the Baptist faith. Along with her family, she joined Mary Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lucama, NC. She was reared and educated in Wilson, NC. After completing her education; she married the late Bryant S. Ellis and relocated to Washington DC; they later divorced. Janice entered the workforce, holding employment with various organizations such as District Photo. She worked hard while being a single parent. Janice remarried to George A. Greenfield; after marrying she converted to the Catholic faith joining St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church; they later divorced. Janice was a devoted, loving mother who continued her education while rearing her younger children. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of The District of Columbia. Furthering her calling in Nursing, she became an LPN and RN at several local hospitals such as George Washington and National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. After relocating back home to Wilson, NC , she continued to help others as a private duty nurse and volunteered at the Wilson Crisis Center for troubled youth and adults. Janice loved to read, travel, tend to numerous flowers in her garden, attend family gatherings and church functions. An exceptional cook; her oyster stuffing and homemade German Chocolate and Caramel cakes were always family favorites. She also had a fondness for clothes, shoes, and loved to shop in her free time. As her health began to decline, Janice returned to the Metropolitan area to be near her family. Janice will be remembered for her beauty; both inner and outer, as a resilient, determined soul who overcame many of life’s trials and tribulations and always wore a beautiful smile. Our matriarch, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, family member and loyal friend may you rest in eternal peace; we will always love and miss you! Left to cherish her loving memories, daughters; Brenda Darring and Sherrie Greenfield; son, Gerard Greenfield; sister, Rosita Carman-Bryant; sister-in-law, Catherine Brockington; daughter-in-law, Joyce Black; 14 grandchildren, Dionne, Jerry Jr. “Earl”, Tracie, Ebony (Dwayne), LaKeisha, Jessica, Stynisha, Derek “Kian”, Tre’Von, Erick, Simone, Kayla, Jaden, and Caton; 9 great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ida Brockington; daughter, Georgette; sons, Ricky J. Ellis, Zollye M. Greenfield, Derrick Harris Greenfield, and Steven G. Greenfield; sister, Jean Brockington Young; brothers, Lonnie ”B”, Frederick “Kip”, Robert “Bobby”, and Terrell “T.W” Brockington.
