Shirley Jeanne Akerman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley who passed away, peacefully, after a 3-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her two daughters, Viva Smith & Noelene McHugh; sons-in-law Greg Smith & Mike McHugh and three grandchildren: Kevin & Holly McHugh and Tyler Smith. Shirley’s career life started out as an elementary school teacher and ended as a secretary at the BC Teachers’ Federation. She was a long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star…..something she was very proud of. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 30th at 1:00pm at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. There will be a reception immediately following. Donations can be made, in Shirley’s memory, to the Canadian Cancer Society
