Slavko Matic

Slavko "Steve" Matic died peacefully in Surrey Memorial Hospital on December 17 at the age of 81. Slavko is survived by his wife Ljiljana (Lillian), his daughter Jelena and cousin Erika Stehle in Freiburg, Germany. Slavko was born on January 1 in the town of Sabac, of the former Yugoslavia. He graduated from trade school in the field of sign painting at the age of 21. He married Lillian, a court reporter on February 22, 1970 in Zemun, of the former Yugoslavia. After moving to Canada in 1976 he began working for Sign Magic as a sign painter and then shortly after opened and operated his own business as Matic Signs which he retired from in 2002. Slavko also leaves behind friends and relatives in Switzerland, Germany, Croatia and Serbia who mourn his passing. A funeral is scheduled for January 4, 2019 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Oceanview Cemetery in Burnaby. An open house will be held by the family at a later date. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Slavko’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a favorite charity of your choice in Slavko’s name.
