Kenneth Woodyard
April 25, 1929 – May 10, 2019

Kenneth (Gene) Woodyard, resident of Bertram, TX., went to his forever
home May 10, 2019 at the age of 90. He was born April 25, 1929 in Enid,
Oklahoma moving to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1936.
He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1947 and Rice University in 1951. At Rice he was
very involved in the Rice band (The Mob) where he served as president his senior year.
After graduation, he spent time in the Grand Tetons before entering the Army
on January 2, 1952. He was discharged in December 1953 after serving in
the Army engineer corps during the Korean Conflict. He attended the
University of Texas receiving his Masters in Geology in 1956. He married
Margaret Orr of Bertram, TX June 9, 1956 then began a 30 year career as a
Petroleum Geologist for Continental Oil Company. He retired in Houston, TX in
1985. His wife, Margaret, preceded him in death July 1990. He married
Carol Wood Christy, whom he had known since 1940 in Ponca City, on
October 19, 1991 in Tulsa, Ok. and moved to Tulsa. They built their home
and moved to Bertram, Texas December 1993. While living in Bertram they
volunteered with the Republican Party for a number of years and traveled a
great deal throughout the world until he was no longer able to do so. He loved
history, especially military history and read extensively on the subject until his
failing vision made it too difficult to read. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his
3 children, Cathy McDaniel (Glenn) of Sanger, TX, Lynn Kelley of Bertram,
TX., and Pat Woodyard (Paula) of Houston, TX.; his 8 grandchildren Jennifer
Jannicke (Deron) of Lacey, WA., Nicole Purnell (Tim) of Sanger, TX.,
Elizabeth Schlicksup (Kevin) of Liberty Hill, TX, Julieanne Braackeen (Justin)
of Sanger, TX, Sarah Gordy (Andy) of Thorndale, TX, Cassandra Clark
(Robert) of Kingsland, TX, Cody Woodyard (Ashley) of Houston, TX. and
Dustin Woodyard of Houston, TX; and 11 great grandchildren. Graveside
services will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery Saturday May 18, 2019 at 10:00 am.
Care has been entrusted to Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.
