Michael Allen Guess

Michael Allen Guess, 59, of Burnet, TX, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2019. Mike was born on September 9, 1959, in the U.S. Naval Hospital at Beeville, TX. Being a navy brat, Mike and his family moved and traveled extensively while he was growing up. As the youngest and, at the time, shortest in the family, “Little Mike” had the lousiest seat in the car during family vacations. His stature did not remain that way for long, because he matured into a power of a man at 6 feet 5 inches. He spent the majority of his younger years in San Diego, CA. Mike is a 1977 graduate of Mission Bay High School in San Diego. After high school with some college under his belt, he worked various jobs in construction, steel distribution, and ship fitting. During this period, Mike met the love of his life, Patty Massey. Mike pulled up his roots in San Diego to be with his love Patty in Houston, TX. Their stars were further aligned in their life journey together when he returned to his native Texas. After Mike spent 8 years in Houston working a few jobs, including a stint with a sign company, he and Patty moved to Burnet, TX, in 1994 where his dad lived. Mike and Patty were married in Burnet and made their home in the family home. After A few years with Hoover Building Supply, Mike went to work for Seton Hospital. At his passing, Mike was a 20 year veteran at Seton. He considered working at Seton the greatest job of his life. It didn’t matter if it was on his job description, if a task needed to be done, he was all over it. Mike’s job blended perfectly with his desire to help people and wanting to work with friends and colleagues of like mindedness. He and Patty loved giving their community the visual gift of their home decorated with magnificent Christmas lights and fun Halloween displays. As a youth, Little Mike was nicknamed “Motor Mouth.” There is no doubt this unique trait of discourse observed in his younger years led him to have the ability to easily strike up a friendly conversation with anybody on virtually any subject. Mike always considered a stranger simply a friend he had not met yet. His generosity, his genuine need and desire to help people, are legend. It is absolutely no exaggeration that Mike would literally give you the shirt off his back. Mike left this world 50 days after his love Patty lost her heroic battle with cancer. Mike is also preceded by the loss of his parents Malcolm (2012) and Mary Lou (1993) Guess. Mike is survived by his brother Malcolm, Jr. (Mac) and his wife Debbie, uncle Joe Pogue and wife Celeste, six cousins, close friend Shana Warner and goddaughter Dani Slatt. Mike did not have any children of his own, but considered Patty’s daughter and her children as his own: daughter Tiffani Cabarcas and her husband Carlos, and grandchildren Bam (Christian), Riley and Shelby Westerman. A visitation for family and friends was held Friday evening April 26. The funeral for Mike was held at 2 PM Saturday, April 27 in the chapel of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home with Minister Tim Denton officiating. Interment followed at the Burnet City Cemetery.
