Obituary of Betty L. Powell
Betty Lou Powell, 92, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 26, 2019. Born on March 10, 1927 in Carrollton, IL, she was the fourth child of Carlos and Anna Sackman Morrow. She grew up in Whitehall, IL where she enjoyed music, singing, fishing, reading and being with her family. She went to high school in Illinois and attended Culver-Stockton College on a scholarship in Music where she earned her Associates degree. She met her husband, Max, and the two were married on June 20, 1948 at the age of 21. They were married for nearly 59 years and traveled the world supporting Max in his Air Force career. They lived and traveled to many places including New York, Spain, and the Philippines. While living in Spain she was an active member of the Gray Ladies volunteering for the American Red Cross. In addition to traveling she enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing golf, cards, bowling, gardening, and sharing stories with her grandchildren. Max and Betty raised three children and enjoyed the company of their five granddaughters. She is most remembered by her kindness and ability to find humor in all situations. Her love of her family was above all else. She was preceded in death by her husband Max on October 12, 2008 as well as her sister, Kate Dawson and brother, Paul Morrow. She is survived by her sister Margaret Hindelang of Alton, Il.; son Ted (Debbie) Powell of Lima, OH; daughters Nancy (Jim) Weldon of Port Ludlow, WA. and Mary Beth (Todd) Libra of Reno, NV.; five grandchildren, Sarah (Andy) Bidwell of Missoula, MT; Carrie (Hugh) Thomas of Shoreline, WA; Anna (David) Jurnack of Atlanta, GA; Elizabeth (Eric) Tucker of Reno, NV and Addie Powell of Lima, OH, and seven great grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Nevada Humane Society at 2835 Longley Lane B, Reno, NV 89502 in Betty’s honor.
