Alfred Tribiger

Alfred Tribiger was born in Wilhelmsau, Poland on Oct. 18, 1941. He was the fifth child of seven born to Reinhold and Lydia Tribiger. Life was often hard for the family during the war. Al's dad was drafted into the army and the family saw little of him. The family lived in several different places, including 2 weeks in an internment camp. Not long after leaving the camp, tragically, three of Al's brothers became ill and died. Al's Uncle Albert and Aunt Olga sponsored the family to come to Canada. Al and his family arrived in Canada in Sept., 1948. They lived in Saskatchewan for 4 years before moving to Alberta. Growing up, as well as in adulthood, Al enjoyed all kinds of sports, including hockey, mini golf, regular golf, tennis, and badminton. Al met May Reiter in 1962. They married July 18, 1964. They had four children: Marcie, born 1965; Lori, born 1967; Kimberly, born 1972; and Jason, born 1976. Al accepted Jesus as Saviour as a child, and was later baptized. Al had a number of different jobs over the years, many of which included driving. His longest running job was with Old Dutch Foods - he worked for that company from 1970 - 1989. Some people referred to him as the potato chip man. After living mainly in Edmonton and Calgary, Chilliwack had been his home for the last 11 years. Diagnosed with Parkinson's more than 10 years ago, life became more challenging with each passing year. It was in May of 2018, that Al was hospitalized, and then later moved to a care home. Even when he couldn't always remember who people were, he was able to remember and recite some Bible verses. His wife May spent much time with him in the care home, especially in the last months. Al was a gentle, kind, and easygoing person.He had a good sense of humour, and was known for his one-liners. He will be missed. Al was predeceased by his brothers Otto, Helmut, and Willie, sister Hilda, and his parents Lydia and Reinhold. He is survived by his loving wife May, daughter Marcie & husband Bob, daughter Lori & husband James, daughter Kimberly & husband Trevor, son Jason, grandchildren Brittany, Joshua & wife Marissa, Joel, Etenia, Gabe & wife Suzi, Tanner, Isaiah, Ethan, Jonah, great granddaughter Eve, sister Irma & her husband Karl, brother Gary, as well as many other relatives.
