IN THE CARE OF
Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Olive Helen Smith at Cheam Village in Agassiz on July 4th, 2018. She will be deeply missed by her entire family. She is survived by her sons Ray (Lorraine), Ken (Bev), her grandchildren Ron (Karin), Darla (Brett), Kim (Andy), Patti (Barry), Kenny (Kaitlin), Shannon (Travis), Shelley (Joe), Richard (Sandra), and her brother John (Liz), along with 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Olive was predeceased by her husband Earl, her son Jim, sisters Julia and Mary, and brother Michael.
Olive was born on August 23, 1919 in Biggar, Saskatchewan. She moved to Chilliwack right out of school where she married and started a family. She loved working with the public and spent years working for Stedman's Department Store and then Macleod's Department Store. She was not one to stay idle, and even after retirement she worked part time for Dr. Thomas. Her strong faith and religion were a huge part of her life. She absolutely loved her church and treasured her years teaching Sunday School. Her stories always included the children she taught and those stories brought a huge smile to her face. A day did not go by that she didn't read her bibles that were full of her personal notes and had her special scriptures underlined. This brought her the most joy. She was passionate about her bible studies, enjoyed walking and later in life, found a new hobby - painting, which she was wonderful at.
Olive was a strong and generous woman and will be missed by all who knew her. Her family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who cared for her the last few years. A Service of Remembrance followed by a Tea will be held Monday, July 9th at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home. A private burial for family will follow the Tea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
