Obituary of Betty Jane Maines
Betty Jane Maines, 89, of Woodland, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Windy Hill Village in Philipsburg surrounded by her family. Born on October 24, 1929 in Shiloh, PA; a daughter of the late David Allen Maines and Fama Mae (Lansberry) Maines. Betty was a Methodist by faith, and played music at various churches and social events. She worked for Navasky’s Clothing in Philipsburg and gave guitar lessons for many years. She was a 4H Leader and Girl Scout Leader. Survivors include one daughter, Karen J. Owens (Brian) of Shiloh; four grandchildren, Barry Owens (Lauren), Nathan Maines (April), Devin Owens-Shutrump (Patrick), and Olivia James (Drew); three great-grandchildren, Ethan Maines, Tate Maines and Raylan Owens; half-sister, Tammy Wallace of Curwensville; three step-sisters, Mary Whited, Jean English, and Marcia Hunt all of Shiloh; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last member of her generation. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard Maines whom she married on January 27, 1951 and who passed away on December 17, 2002; two brothers, Fredrick Maines and Francis “Red” Maines; three sisters, Avanel Hullihen, Rebecca Luzier, and Mary Miller; son, Steven B. Maines; and granddaughter, Rachel Maines. Funeral services will be held at Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11 AM with Pastor Brenda Leigey officiating. Interment will be in Bradford Cemetery. Friends will be received on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the funeral home from 10 AM until the hour of services.
