Marian Goelman

February 2, 1920May 16, 2019
Marian “Mitzi” Goelman passed away on May 16, 2019. Born February 2, 1920 to Ruth (Wynbrandt) and Nathan Waldman in Cleveland. Mitzi was a lifelong Cleveland resident. She married Allan Goelman in 1943, and together they raised 4 children. Along with Allan, Mitzi was a member of Ha'shomer Ha'tzair. They had planned to make Alliyah and live on a kibbutz. However, WWII and children kept them in Cleveland. They visited Israel several times, and Mitzi remained an ardent Zionist throughout her life. She belonged to Pioneer Women, and on her last visit to Israel in her 80's, she celebrated her Bat Mitzvah. Mitzi was a lifelong learner. She began teaching Hebrew School at age 16, and received a Bachelor of Hebrew Letters Degree from the Cleveland College of Jewish Studies in 1970. For over 60 years she and her childhood friends held a monthly book club. Known for her positive attitude toward life, Mitzi instilled her children with optimism and a "can do" approach to life's challenges. She was a spiritual person, who enjoyed religious services as well as study sessions, particularly with Rabbi Kutner. At age 90 Mitzi moved to the RH Myers apts. Except for bingo, which she thought was a waste of time, Mitzi took her usual front row seat for nightly programs. Her years at Myers were filled with great happiness. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mitzi was predeceased by her parents, husband Allan and 3 siblings Jack Waldman, Morris Waldman and Helen Pearlman. She is survived by her children: Sharon (Les Meritsky) Goelman, Leah (Al) Bloom, Naomi (Mark) Rosenfield and Michael (Barbara) Goelman, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
