Obituary of Betty Weatherford Clapp
Betty Gene Weatherford Clapp was born on December 14, 1931 in Village Mills, Texas at home, and passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday April 21, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin B. Clapp; parents, Daniel Clay Weatherford and Elva Mae “Molly” Weldon Weatherford Kirby; step-father, Adouf “Doc” Kirby; and brothers, Tommy and Dwaine Weatherford. She is survived by her brother, Cledis (Patsy) Weatherford; nieces, Celeta Bolton and Aryonna Weatherford; sister-in-law, Kay (John) Clapp Bowman, and several cousins and their extended families. Betty loved to travel. After graduating from Conroe High School in 1949, her first excursion was to Japan where she lived and worked for 2 years. In June 1954, she began her Dow career and retired in 1992 from the Inorganic Chemicals Research Department. Betty met Alvin through mutual friends in 1961 when they were fleeing Hurricane Carla. They were married on April 13, 1962 and had 57 wonderful years together. Betty and Alvin traveled throughout the U.S. and Mexico. When Alvin preferred staying at home; she traveled with friends and family to Europe, Australia, China, and Russia. Betty was a member of Wesley First United Methodist Church in Clute. The family would like to express a heart-felt thank you to Ben and Vada Dunn, Lucas Erwin, and Leo and Joyce Brock for their special attention they have given to Betty during her stay at the nursing home. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute, TX starting at 9:30 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. The graveside service will follow immediately at Restwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Wesley First United Methodist Church in Clute, TX.
