Sitting here with a heavy heart and memories flooding back of my years in Glengarry.... I heard of Pat's passing late last night, and so many thoughts of him started to come back. His laughter, his energy, his goofy ways, the walks we took together, the birthday we shared, and the many sleepless nights,... His eyes always showed a depth of understanding that he often was not able to communicate with words. He was a testament of perseverance through trauma, and was a kind and loving man, always shedding light where he went, despite not having the freedom I'm sure he longed for.
To my friends who also deeply cared for this wonderful man, I wrap my arms around you and miss you all.
Patty, I hope I did you right. You were never a client. You were family ♥️

Patrick was my uncle. I had just gotten to know him but I loved him deeply. He taught me so much about love and family. He also taught me he loved food and to keep a close eye on my ice cream. He was a so sweet and pure. So handsome. He made me feel good just being around him. Through all his challenges he just had this innocence, the special way about him. From the day we met til we meet again in my 💓 I'll carry him. Let your free spirit fly Patty. I'll always have your memory.

My name is Bill Attwell. I worked for Open Hands as the TEAM LEADER of the Lynn Street Residence. I was involved with the discharge process that brought Patrick to Cornwall (Open Hands) from Rideau Regional Center in Smith Falls. I remember visiting Patrick in Smith Falls and his first day at the Lynn Street where I was incharged. He presented a lot of challenging behaviours and the staff were so good with him. He changed so much from the first to the time i left the agency. The changes in him were amazing and the the staff at the time were people i still look up to today. I was told by the Regional Rideau staff that he would never make it and would be returning. We proved them wrong and at the time of my leaving he was having weekly suppers out at a restaurant. His personal and self help skills improved. We , especially Patrick proved them all wrong ! RIP my friend
