OBITUARY
Dorlis Brown Glass
October 14, 1931 – September 8, 2019
Dorlis Brown Glass of Dallas passed away on September 8, 2019. She was born on October 14, 1931, in Huntington, Indiana, to Hugh Hoyt and Fern Denny Brown.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Verne Glass; brother Rev. Hugh Hoyt Brown II, and sister Joanna Bollinger. Survivors include her son Steven Verne Glass and his wife Rachel of Dallas/Ding Dong; daughters: Joanna Glass Prees of Dallas and Carol Glass Jones & her husband Doug of Carrollton; Step Daughter Peggy Olsen and her husband Leonard; 7 grandchildren – Ande Houston McNamara & husband Doug, Rob Houston & wife Mandy, Lindsey Glass Walker & husband Dale, Jon Zachary Glass and wife Amy; William Jones, Sarah Jones and Rebecca Jones; 9 great grandchildren – Cole & Kali McNamara, Jillian, William, Lucas & Isla Walker, Sophie Eriks, Surrae & Skyler Forshee; 5 great-great grandchildren – Gracie, James, Serenity Eriks, Ben and Faith Daniels. Niece: Emmy Thompson, Nephews: Bob, Rick and Reg Bollinger, Hugh, Robert and David Brown. Robert Brown came to live with Verne & Dorlis for several years becoming a much loved member of the family. Soon to join the family are Kyle Kolbye (fiancé of Sarah Jones and William Crews (fiancé of Becca Jones) with their upcoming weddings.
Dorlis was a Dallas resident for most of her life. She was a graduate of Southern Methodist University in 1953. She was a teacher and active in education. Dorlis spent 7 years volunteering and helping to organize Hores Alegres through the Methodist Conference. She spent 11 years tutoring ESL children in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch and Little Elm School Districts. Dorlis sat on the Board of Trustees for 12 years in the Little Elm Independent School District. Dorlis was a Christian Educator and Writer for the Methodist Publishing House. She wrote Sunday school curriculum, articles and books. She also wrote short stories and recently her book, Lure of Gold, was published. Dorlis spent her whole life helping others through her volunteer work at the church, schools and community. It was said that if the church doors were open you would find Dorlis. She & Verne loved to travel and go on cruises. They loved to spend time with the kids and grandkids. They all have fond memories of their special moments together. She was a long-time member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
The graveside service will be Saturday, September 14, 2019, at 1:00 pm in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The memorial service is at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 12411 Templeton Trail, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234 with Rev. J. D. Allen officiating.
The family asks that donations be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite Hospital or Cottey College. Each of these were near and dear to her heart.
