Obituary of Mrs. Laura Louise (Sears) Burleson
Laura Louise Sears Burleson, better known as “Aunt Bill”, was born on April 29, 1943 in Dallas, Texas and graced this life on August 5, 2019. Laura was the youngest daughter of Elder William Sears and Missionary Julia (Coleman) Sears in Rockwall, Texas. Laura attended Canada Drive Church of God In Christ with her parents and family under the leadership of Supt. Valentine; it was there that she accepted Christ as her Lord at an early age. She was an active member of the choir and Sunday School. Her parents and seven of her siblings-Jimmy Lee Sears, Willie James Sears, Mary Lee Sears Davis, Charlene Sears Armstead, Minnie V. Sears, Robert Lee Sears, and Reed Sears all preceded her in death. Laura matriculated through the Dallas Independent Public-School system and was a trojan graduate of James Madison High School. Laura was an active member of the drill team and graduated with high honors; she was an exemplary student. She continued her studies after graduation at Texas Christian University and studied Psycology. Laura later married her high school sweet heart, and three children were born to this union: Billy Ray, Sheilynda, and Sharon. Laura began a rewarding career with the Federal Government where she continued to excel. Her tenacity and attention to detail garnished her with many service and performance awards too numerous to mention. Laura concluded her career with the VA Medical Center in the Department of Nuclear Medicine as a Program Analyst where she spent 25 years caring for America’s Heroes. Laura continued to worship at Greater Love Missionary Baptist Church during her retirement years. She sang in the choir and served faithfully until her health began to fail her. She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Billy Ray Burleson (Rhonda), her daughters, Sheilynda (Kenneth) and Sharon (Bruce); six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
