Capt. John P. Toomey

Captain John P. Toomey (Jack) peacefully transitioned from this life, on June 2, 2019 with his family at his side. Born in Athol, Massachusetts, Jack attended the University of Maine and graduated with a degree in Forestry. He served in the United States Army as an aviator and later went on to flight school becoming a commercial airline pilot for Trans World Airlines (TWA) where he retired as a Captain in Command after thirty-five years. Jack was the loving father of four children. He leaves behind his daughter, Ann Krantz and her husband Don of Watertown, CT, and his sons John Toomey, Jr, of Woodbury, CT, Brendan Toomey and his wife Loni of Danbury, CT and Christian Toomey of Bethel, CT. In addition to his children he leaves behind his long-time love and companion Trish Bogart of Long Island, his brothers David Toomey of Pennsylvania, Kevin Toomey of North Carolina and five grandchildren. Jack was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed cooking and over the years amassed numerous cookbooks from the many place he traveled. He was at home in the woods or by the sea and often traveled to Maine where he spent his summers as a child. Jack had a deep love for the many canines he cared for over the years, the most recent being Nala, his rescue Golden Retriever who was his steadfast companion for the past17 years. He loved the UCONN women’s basketball team and was a die-hard Red Sox fan. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A special acknowledgement to the outstanding team on Wooster 3 and Ramage 2 at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT who provided the most compassionate care for Jack for the past five months. Thank you for going above and beyond each and every day. A Memorial Gathering for Jack will be held on June 19th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20th at 10:00am at Saint Mary’s Church in Bethel, CT. A private burial will be held in Athol, Mass on Friday the 21st.
