Austin Keith Baxter
June 6, 1945 – April 29, 2019

Age 73, of Dartmouth, passed away suddenly at home on April 29, 2019. Born in Sackville, NB, Austin was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his father, Matthew “Matt”; mother, Thelma (Poirier); brother, Harry; dear sister, Abbie Robitaille; cousin, Alice Younge. He is survived by uncle, Everette Hamilton; cousins, Christine Hicks, Sharon Kaye, Calvin Kaye, Robert Kaye, Lillian Spinney, Larry Goodeill and Fran St. George; nephew, David Baxter. Austin was a professional hair stylist with over 55 years experience. He received advanced training in New York City, London, England and Toronto. In 1994, Austin recognized a growing need within the community for his services for those who couldn’t get out. He then started his mobile hair styling business. It soon flourished and developed into a very successful business. Austin’s witty personality, work ethic and expertise soon garnered him a large clientele and loyal customer base. His many “regulars” soon became dear friends. Austin had several hobbies and interests, including playing piano, baking, crossword puzzles, pole-walking and reading. Austin was a regular at the Cole Harbour Library. Cremation has taken place and a visitation will be held on Monday, May 6th from 7-9pm in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, May 8th from 7-9pm in Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB. Austin’s remains will be laid to rest in Sackville Rural Cemetery in Sackville, NB at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice.
