Obituary of Mildred Viator David
DELCAMBRE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Clement David, the former Mildred Viator, age 97, at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Fr. Buddy Breaux officiating. Readers will be Mrs. David’s grandchildren. Immediately following the mass, Mrs. David will be laid to rest beside her husband at Migues Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will take place at Evangeline Funeral Home in Delcambre on Wednesday from 8:00 am until the service time. The Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 pm. A native and resident of Iberia Parish, Mrs. David passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home in Cade, LA. Mildred was born on July 17, 1921 to the late Edmond and Elina Delcambre Viator in the shadow of a large oak tree on the north shore of Lake Peigneur in Iberia Parish. She was the fifth of six children, reared to work hard to survive the depression years. She and her husband, Clement, were married on January, 21, 1939 and were share croppers on tenant farms for 14 years. In 1953 they moved to New Iberia where she worked as a waitress at Del’s Restaurant for almost 14 Years. They later moved to the farm Mildred was reared on, and raised cattle, chickens, and a large garden. Mildred loved the outdoors and had beautiful flowers. She will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Mildred leaves behind to cherish her memories her children, Flodry A. Giles, Joseph Lernex David and wife Laura, and Mary Nell D. Bouy; 13 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clement David; parents, Edmond and Elina Delcambre Viator; sisters, Verdice V. Bourque, Lucette V. Dutil, and Lucy V. Lopez; brothers, Cleor J. Viator and Cleus J. Viator; and sons-in-law, Robert C. Giles and Kenneth Bouy. Pallbearers will be Mrs. David’s grandsons. Mrs. David’s family would like to extend thanks to the management and staff of Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home in Cade and for the special care given by Lourdes Hospice of Lafayette.
