Calvin "Skip" VanTassell

VanTassell, Calvin P. “Skip” age 74 of Gilbert’s Cove, Digby Co. passed away May 4, 2019 at the Digby General Hospital. Born in Digby, he was a son of the late Calvin Oscar and Margaret (Amero) VanTassell. Skip had always been involved in some way with the fishing business, had a lawn care business and plowed snow for many years. He always kept himself busy doing something, he was never still. He loved his trucks and had them all lit up. He loved being with people, cooking, putting on a big meal and feeding everyone was his joy. He enjoyed hunting, boating, playing cards, Nascar races, and Christmas lights. Most of all he wanted to make everyone happy. How he loved his brothers and sisters and family. He was a past member of the Digby Fire Dept. Surviving are his wife Shirley, 3 children by a previous marriage, step daughters, Dawn Sauve, Digby; children Austin, Abbie, stepsons, Jack (Jennifer) Sauve, Digby; children Dylan, Desire’, McKenzie, Jacob, Dean (Roxann) Sauve, Annapolis; children Ethan, Hannah, James, Kerestyn, Zachary; sister, Joan Wynott, Calgary; brothers, James (Lois) VanTassell, Calgary; Doug (Garneta) VanTassell, Sask.; grandchildren Alexander and Jared Elderkin, Justin and Ryan Ritchie, Kristopher and Mackenzie VanTassell, Sasha Dunphy, great-grandchildren Layla Elderkin and Maddison VanTassell, many special nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers David and Mason VanTassell, sisters Addie Brown, Evelyn Taylor and Diane Wentzell. No visitation by request. A celebration of Skip’s life will be held 3pm Thursday, May 9 from Jayne’s Funeral Home, 7 Birch St. Digby with a reception to follow.
