Marion Dobkin

Mrs. Marion M. Dobkin (91) of East Stroudsburg, PA, died of age-related natural causes on May 2, 2019 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Pocono (formerly, Pocono Medical Center). At the time of her passing, Mrs. Dobkin was surrounded by all three of her adult children and her beloved niece Nanette Piccirillo. In the days immediately prior to her death, she was visited by both her grown grandsons and their wives. Mrs. Dobkin (nee Sofia) was born September 12, 1927 in New York City, to Michael and Louise (Hoffman) Sofia. In 1950, she married Benjamin Dobkin (also of New York). The couple lived in the Bronx prior to moving to Elmwood Park, NJ with their children in 1967. Mrs. Dobkin became a widow in 1977 upon the death of her husband, and never remarried. In 1993, she moved to northeast Pennsylvania, and lived with her younger son, first in Mount Pocono, PA, and later with her son and his husband in East Stroudsburg. One of 11 brothers and sisters, Mrs. Dobkin’s greatest joy was time spent with family – her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews – and her close friends. After her husband’s death, Mrs. Dobkin worked as a claims adjuster for Liberty Mutual insurance in Saddle Brook, NJ until 1991. Possessing a deep well of personal strength, Mrs. Dobkin was a breast cancer survivor. She had a lifelong love of NYC, and until the last few years of her life, would go see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center each year. She was an avid reader and crocheter, and a member of the Seniors and Crafting clubs at St. John’s Church and the Bushkill Seniors club. In retirement, she developed a love of travel and often spent time in Miami, Seattle, Rehoboth Beach, Palm Springs and Los Angeles. Mrs. Dobkin is survived by her older son, Kenneth Dobkin of Las Vegas, Nevada, her daughter Barbara Dobkin and son-in-law Eric Rhinelander of Seattle, Washington, and her younger son David Dobkin and son-in-law Michael Voss of Mountain View, California, as well as her grandson Kenneth M. Dobkin and his wife Kristen, and grandson Eric Dobkin and his wife Erin, and six great-grandchildren. Her family would like to thank the staff of Spring Village at Pocono where she lived the last year, as well as the hospice care team at LVH-Pocono. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated in her memory at St. John’s Church in Middle Smithfield township on Monday, May 6 at 11:00 AM.
