Obituary of Elizabeth Anne Shirley Sandul
Elizabeth Anne Shirley Sandul, aged 70, of Edmonton, Alberta passed away suddenly on Friday, August 2, 2019. Born on November 19, 1948 in Spirit River, Alberta to Jack and Martha Sandul, Shirley was the youngest of five siblings. She is survived by her brother, Bob (Joan) Sandul and her sister Joan Margel and her sister-in-law Noreen Sandul. She leaves behind generations of nieces and nephews that will miss her greatly. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, John Bayers and Pete Sandul. Shirley was best known for her adult literacy activities on behalf of P.A.L.S. (Project Adult Literary Society) of Edmonton where she was Executive Director for over 30 years. This role brought her into contact with hundreds, if not thousands of tutors, volunteers, students and fellow literacy folk in Edmonton and across Canada over a career that spanned many years. She will be well-met in heaven by her parents, Jack and Martha, brothers and fellow fishermen John and Pete, her dog, Little One and her lifelong friend, Marlene Campbell. Those who knew her will remember her best sitting in a fishing boat with a Diet coke, wearing her favourite hat, a book in one hand and her rod in the other, waiting for the next nibble on her hook. She will be greatly missed by those who enjoyed her sense of humour, ready wit and storytelling skills, but not so much by the fish whose lives have now been spared. Our own stories of Shirley and shared reminiscences will keep her spirit alive and in our hearts for many years. A memorial service with luncheon to follow will be held on Saturday August 24, 2019 at 10:00 am at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 9810 34 Avenue. Donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to P.A.L.S. (www.palsedmonton.ca) address: #41, 9912-106 Street Edmonton, AB T5K 1C5
