WACK, Katherine Isabel It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Isabel Wack on Monday, July 8, 2019. She was a tough independent lady who was known for her sense of humor and her squares and cookies. Katherine was born to Bryan and Laura Crichton in the farming community of Marwayne, Alberta. Kathy was the oldest and the only girl with four brothers and attended primary school at Fenham School. She enjoyed cross country skiing and tap dancing when she was young and always loved music. On April 30, 1952, Kathy married Paul Wack, a gentle caring man. They had four children – two boys and two girls. The younger girl, Ella-May, only lived for a few days. Katherine had arthritis at an early age and suffered many years with it but never let that stop her from dancing or camping. She and Paul hosted numerous family events at their home. Kathy went back to school in her later years and earned a Grade 12 equivalency. She was very proud of her family and their many accomplishments – but, of course, had the good manners not to brag about them. Kathy’s life was not an easy one, but she made the best of it. After Paul passed away from cancer, Kathy learned how to drive and enjoyed many road trips with her aunts, cousins and grandchildren. During her lifetime, she cooked in a forestry camp, did house cleaning, took in borders, was a babysitter, worked for ACT as a bookkeeper and worked in the Judges dining room at the courthouse. Kathy took on the challenge of recording the Crichton/Sonely family history; gathering data, collecting photos and articles, touring cemeteries and contacting people for their input. She was very proud of what she accomplished so it could be passed on to future generations. Kathy’s health deteriorated over the years, but she loved working in her garden and had many varieties of healthy plants at her house. She eventually moved into a condo and then to her Londonderry apartment where she joined the social club and exercise programs. She valued the many good friends she made there and being so close to the mall – she made shopping into an art form. The she decided it was time to move into a lodge and she waited two years for just the right one. Kathy moved into Sakaw Terrace on her birthday in November. It was lovely, brand new, state of the art and the staff were amazing. The following Easter Kathy was diagnosed with a brain tumor and although she fought very hard to carry on, she succumbed to her illness at 85 years of age. The Disappointments in her life Were numerous and big. Her needs and wants simple. Her pleasures were small, Taking joy in the children. She was strong and independent, To the end - a Leader. Never shirked responsibility, She was a realist. One day the Angels came To end her pain and take Her to comfort and peace.
