Leonard Roy Barkwell

Len passed away peacefully July 5, 2019 with his family by his side at the age of 91. Predeceased by his parents, his five siblings and their spouses, three brother-in-laws and one sister-in-law, he leaves his beloved wife Vera; son Jim (Teri) of Richmond, BC; daughter Lori (Ed) of Edmonton; grandchildren David, Steven, Christina (Graham), Jaclyn (Erik), Cathryn (Josh); and, special great-granddaughters Ayla and Ellie. Len cherished his large and loving family, including sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, all those who joined the family through marriage, and his many dear friends. He will be remembered as a kind individual with a great sense of humor and as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. Born in Saskatoon and growing up in Isham, SK he found his way to Edmonton where he met the love of his life Vera, whom he married in 1952. Together they raised their family in Edmonton. After a career in the oil industry with BA, Gulf, and Petro-Canada, Len retired in 1988. Trips in their fifth wheel ensued with many winters spent in Arizona where many new friendships were forged. Some special trips included: Europe with sister Jean, Yukon with Jim and Alice, Portugal with Nat and George, and spelunking with grandsons Steven and David in BC. A Celebration of Life for Len will be held at 2 pm, July 19, 2019 at Hainstock’s Funeral Home at 9810 - 34 Avenue, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
